چکیده

Method for water vapor profile retrievals by means of minimizing difference between estimated and actual brightness temperatures derived from AIRS data and radiative transfer model is proposed. Initial value is determined by linearized radiative transfer equation. It is found that this initial value determination method makes improvement of estimation accuracy together with reducing convergence time. Keywords-infrared sounder; non-linear optimization method; linearized inversion.

Analysis of temporal and spatial correlation between precipitable water vapor retrievals from AIRS satellite sensor and 29 synoptic station measurements in Iran

Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) is one of the most important quantities in meteorology and climate studies. PWV in Earth's atmosphere can be measured by Sun-photometer, the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), and radiosonde from surface, atmosphere and space-based systems, respectively. In this paper, we use PWV measured by Sun-photometer located in Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Scien...

Influence of cloud temperature on brightness temperature and consequences for water retrieval

In this paper we show that to improve existing radiometric methods to estimate path-integrated cloud liquid water, the physical approximations commonly used concerning the direct model have to be reconsidered. In fact, even if the problem that consists in deducing the brightness temperatures from atmospheric quantities is rigorously solved (for a nonscattering atmosphere) by means of the radiat...

Validation of the community radiative transfer model

To validate the Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM) developed by the U.S. Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA), the discrete ordinate radiative transfer (DISORT) model and the line-by-line radiative transfer model (LBLRTM) are combined in order to provide a reference benchmark. Compared with the benchmark, the CRTM appears quite accurate for both clear sky and ice cloud ra...

Microwave radiometric technique to retrieve vapor, liquid and ice. I. Development of a neural network-based inversion method

With the advent of the microwave radiometer, passive remote sensing of clouds and precipitation has become an indispensable tool in a variety of meteorological and oceanographical applications. There is wide interest in the quantitative retrieval of water vapor, cloud liquid, and ice using brightness temperature observations in scientific studies such as earth’s radiation budget and microphysic...

Direct assimilation of AMSR - E brightness temperatures for estimating sea - ice concentration

In this paper a method to directly assimilate brightness temperatures from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) to produce ice concentration analyses within a three-dimensional variational data assimilation system is investigated. To assimilate the brightness temperatures a simple radiative transfer model is used as the forward model which maps the state vector to the observation...
